“Akafuku” at the Ise Grand Shrine

Recently I visited the Ise Grand Shrine and enjoyed this famous Japanese sweets, “Akafuku”. Akafuku” is the local specialty of Ise. A rice dumpling is covered with “koshi-an,” which is made from mashed beans.

Along the sides of the approach to the Shrine, there are many souvenir shops and restaurants. You can find several “Akafuku” cafe there. They serve 3 dumplings and roasted green tea. Tea is refilled again and again. It costs only 280 JPY. Reasonable, eh?

You can buy a box of “Akafuku” even at big train stations such as Nagoya, Tokyo and so on.
